Old Perlican is a fishing village about a 20 minutes drive northeast on Highway 70. It is one of the oldest fishing communities in Newfoundland and it served as the major fishing station in Trinity Bay for migratory fishermen from England in the 17th century.

Bay de Verde is a prominent fishing community and the northernmost community in Conception Bay. It is a 25 minute drive from Burnt Point. Tourist attractions include: -Heritage Premises (Blundon House) and Baccalieu Island Exhibit -The Bay de Verde Heritage House is a merchant-class Victorian house built in 1896 which features many exhibits, including one on the Baccalieu Island Bird Sanctuary -Active Fishing Community with both a major crab and shrimp plant -Two Historic Churches, Roman Catholic and Anglican (Over 100 years old) -Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve. Seabird Colony -Scenic view of beautiful Conception Bay -Iceberg viewing and Whale Watching (humpbacks, minkes, etc.) -Lazy Rock Hiking Trail. Groomed and maintained hiking trail. 3k -Boat Tour -Seasonal Crab Plant Tour

Carbonear is a 35 minute drive from our home. It is the closest town to find a Walmart, a Canadian Tire, a Home Hardware Store, and larger chain restaurants like Subway. Larger grocery stories can also be found here. The town of Carbonear is one of the oldest permanent settlements in Newfoundland and among the oldest European settlements in North America. Tourist Attractions: -Carbonear Walking Tours - Historical walking tours leaving from the Bethany United Cemetery -Island Charter Tours - Boat tours of Carbonear Island; scuba -Rorke Store Museum -Railway Museum -Old Post Office & Heritage Society -Princess Sheila NaGeira Theatre -Earle's Riding Horses

Located a 5 minutes drive from Burnt Point, Northern Bay Sands has two freshwater pools on the northern end of the beach and the majority of its campsites on the southern end. There are two bars, a laundromat, a café and a take-out restaurant within walking distance of the beach.

Salmon Cove is a 25 minute drive from Burnt Point. The heart shaped beach of Salmon Cove offers 500m of fine grey sand surrounded by imposing cliffs. A 2km hiking trail and warm water river offer activities for the entire family. There is a small canteen where you can get water, drinks, chips and bars and ice cream. There are no campsites on or around salmon cove sands.

Driving/renting a car is the best way to get around the province in general. Public transportation is very limited and the best nearby attractions are best accessed by car.

Cliffs

The surrounding areas featured in our pictures are a few steps away from our home. Catch some whales in the ocean every summer, they are a must see when in Burnt Point. The viewpoint for Mouse Hole is a couple of minutes walk and a great display of our province’s beautiful coast.

Most of the residents in town are seniors and live quietly, they are very friendly and helpful.

Bring warm and waterproof layers

The weather in coastal Newfoundland is generally cool, even in the summer. Rain and fog can roll in quite quickly so it's best to pack warm and waterproof jackets.

Small general store

If you need any last minute items without traveling too far from Burnt Point you may visit the local general store around the corner from the house. They have a small section for frozen food, produce, snacks, and other supplies.
