Satra Monastery is a great hiking destination from guesthouse Casa Carolina. Superb panoramic views after 4-6 hours of hiking. You can also hire an ATV & guide from Cupseni village for a quicker journey. Ask for details. Satra Monastery is visible from the garden - look for silver shining rooftops to the left of Satra mountain (1041m).

Unesco Listed Churches of Rogoz Village. Accessible from the main road, the church at the back is the oldest (1663). Get the key from the local vicar (phone number on the door) and visit the frescoes inside the church and climb the High Tower. On a Sunday, visit the modern church nearby to enjoy its frescoes, traditional Orthodox Mass and gregorian chants.

Peaceful Rohia Monastery is a monastic complex and centre for learning. Admire the beautifully painted interior and discover Byzantine icons (St Anne) in its undercroft. Take a moment to light a candle and say a prayer. Visit monk writer Nicolae Steinhardt's old apartment now a museum and discover his "Journal of Happiness". Visit the Maramures style wooden museum church displaying the oldest bibles in Romania (in kirilic script). Make a donation towards the building of the new library & conference centre. Souvenir shop.

Food scene
Easy hiking lunch destination over the hill from Cupseni village and down the hill into Ungureni village, straight into Podina Resort restaurant. 4h return lunch trip ( 2h to go, 2h to come back). Pizza restaurant, coffee and bar.
Also the location of the Christmas and Easter Ungureni Village Dance (entry fee) when live music and local traditional costumes can be enjoyed. Casa Carolina guests can rent a costume to dress up and join in the lively dances (Please ask for details).

Easy hiking lunch destination over the hill from Cupseni village and down the hill into Ungureni village, straight into Podina Resort restaurant. 4h return lunch trip ( 2h to go, 2h to come back). Pizza restaurant, coffee and bar.
