Sambo Creek has one of the largest Garifuna population in Honduras and is considered to be one of the epicenters of cultural preservation. An annual fair in June is held there and traditional dances are still practiced, like the punta.

The Cayos Cochinos or Cochinos Cays consist of two small islands and 13 more small coral cays situated 30 kilometres northeast of La Ceiba on the northern shores of Honduras. Although geographically separate, they belong to the Bay Islands department and are part of Roatán municipality.

La Ceiba is a Caribbean port city in northern Honduras. It’s the gateway to the Bay Islands of Roatán, Útila and Guanaja. Part of a vast barrier reef, the islands have dive sites teeming with marine life such as whale sharks. South of La Ceiba, Pico Bonito National Park is rich in wildlife, including jaguars and toucans. To the west is the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, with mangroves and lagoons home to manatees.
