PARKING:

This is a fairly urban neighborhood, and even though we don't have parking onsite, there are some parking options on the street. It depends on the day. Weekends are all open parking and during the day, it's relatively easy to locate parking (as long as you don't park near the beach if the weather is nice). Weekdays are harder and you'll have a little more difficulty depending upon when you arrive - if you arrive during the daytime (before people return from work), you can often snag parking on a side street without any issues (perhaps 1-2 blocks away - you can double park while unloading before going to look for parking). If you arrive after 6pm, it get progressively more difficult as the evening goes on, but then get a little easier again after the restaurants close - so within 1-4 blocks.

BEST PARKING PLACE SUGGESTION: There is usually no restriction parking on Old Colony Ave (that’s another cross street at the corner of Dorchester St) that is just 1-2 blocks away. Also the streets (Columbia Rd) that are along the beach and access roads that parallel the beach usually have no restriction parking too - also just 1-2 blocks away. Also there’s no restriction parking along Joe Moakley Park (that’s the huge sports activity park that is next to the beach/water). These are good places to park if you need to just leave your car - but pay attention to Snow Emergency area during the winter still (see next paragraph). This is the BEST PLACE to snag a spot because they are mostly unrestricted (except for street cleaning times and snow emergency, which are very rare) - and the BEST TIME to find them is to do it during the day time, especially during the weekdays, then you can leave your car there for the the duration (again, exception notes earlier)

Of course, you still have to pay attention to the signs and don’t block handicap sidewalk ramps, don’t block fire hydrants, don’t block bus stops, etc. If you arrive in the Winter time and there’s a major snow storm or Snow Emergency, then all bets are off you should not bring a car.

We're happy to help you hunt down parking when you arrive. Thx.

ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION:

Get rid of the car, or park and leave it. Instead use these options of the Subway (nearby), the bike rentals (also nearby), and Uber/Lyft (see referral codes for free rides in the House Manual). Most popular destinations are a short $5-$15 Uber ride (non-surge). Boston is also very bikable and Boston has The Hubway, a bike rental network with bike stations all over town with a station about 0.5 miles away from our place.

I grew up in Colorado, moved to Cambridge to attend MIT, moved away to London and various places, now back in Boston for the past 20 years. My husband, Sean is a retired US Army veteran and graduate of the US Military Academy (West Point) - and we love to host. We also like to travel and we host as we would want to be hosted when we travel - we like comfort and convenience. Come visit, play some volleyball at the nearby beach - or just head downtown - we can walk there too!
