Set on the pristine banks of the iconic Snowy River, this 4WD ONLY* access property is a remote getaway from the everyday hustle and bustle of daily life. Our property, Lappi, is in a rural area of the Snowy Monaro region, at the foothills of the NSW Snowy Mountains. The property was named for its similarities to Lapland by the Finnish family who built the cabins in 1980 using traditional Finnish building methods from solid cedar logs. The guest sauna and laundry are also built in the same method. The traditional building methods certainly help when the temperatures hit -15o overnight in winter.
The property is around 45 minutes from both Cooma and Jindabyne, so make sure you bring everything you need with you, and have plenty of fuel in your 4WD as there are no shops nearby! We are about 75 minutes from the ski resorts of Thredbo and Perisher.
Our cabins are self-contained with their own kitchens and bathrooms. They are secluded and you cannot see another cabin from your cabin. The river is crystal clear, as is the night sky. It’s quiet, so, so quiet. The views, the bush and the river are all a photographers dream. See kangaroos, wombats and echidnas in abundance.
We know that Snowy River Cabins isn't for everyone. It’s a remote location, the 20km of gravel access roads can get very rough and the causeways can get quite deep. It’s a 4WD access farmstay, there's no mobile phone service, no internet and no TVs. Our Cabins are traditional cabins, so they are quite small and cozy - this helps with keeping them warm (as does the solid timber walls and double glazing) but it does mean there's not a lot of room in them!
So if that hasn't scared you off, if you like an adventure down a bush track to a hidden gem, then hit book now! We look forward to welcoming you.
4WD Access
Snowy River Cabins is a 4WD ONLY access property. 4WD’s and AWD’s are suitable and the 20km of dirt road can become quite muddy and slippery after rain. There is a creek crossing immediately prior to the property which can have potentially a foot of water that guests need to drive through. We do recommend vehicles have at least 200mm of ground clearance due to sometimes rough surfaces and rocks on the road, as well as the bumps of the creek crossing. It is not a practical solution to travel in a 2WD and leave your vehicle nearby – the nearest town is 20km away.
Pets
Well-trained domestic pets may be bought with you to our property but must remain under control at all times and cannot be left in or at the cabins unattended. There is a one-off booking fee of $25 for guests bringing pets with them. A $200 credit card pre-authorisation is also required for all guests bringing pets with them in the event of damage caused by, or as a result of, the pet. Pets are not permitted into the National Parks so guests must keep this in mind when making their booking. Service pets are exempt from the booking fee.
Group and Multi-Cabins Bookings
Multi-cabin bookings are permitted but we do remind our guests that we are a remote destination where others come to get away from noise and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As such, we do remind guests that noise levels at all times must be respectable to other guests at all times. We do ask that noise between the hours of 9pm and 7am be kept to a minimum, and is not heard at neighbouring cabins.
If items are moved between cabins, guests are asked to return them to their original cabins prior to check out. An inventory list will be available in the cabins to assist with this. There will be a $50 charge per cabin for items that have not been returned to their original cabin, and all group bookings will have a $200 pre-authorisation to cover this charge and excessive cleaning if deemed necessary.
Cabin Information
Standard cabins can sleep a maximum of 6 occupants with the large cabin sleeping a maximum of 8 occupants. Guests are not permitted to bring additional bedding for extra guests. All cabin bookings include bathmat and hand-towel, tea towels, doonas and blankets. Bed linen and towel hire is an optional extra and must be confirmed at the time of your booking. Our cabins are heated and built for cold weather. Each cabin has its own full kitchenette with fridge, bench top oven and hot plates, microwave, toaster, kettle and Aldi coffee pod machine. Cutlery, crockery, pots and pans and cooking utensils are provided. Cabins do have electricity and hot water, but there are no tv’s or wifi. Mobile phone service is extremely limited. For a full inventory list, be sure to check our FAQ’s page.
Deposit and Payments
The full amount of your stay will be processed for bookings made within 14 days of check in. A 30% deposit will be taken for all other bookings and the balance will be processed 14 days prior to check in.
Amendments and Cancellations
All amendments will incur a $25 administration fee. Amendments for bookings within 14 days may be required to pay the full cost of the new booking and a refund to be made on the provision of the original dates being subsequently booked.
Cancellations
• More than 14 days prior to your scheduled check-in time: a $25 administration fee will apply
• 8-14 days prior to your scheduled check-in time: 30% of your total booking fee will be taken as a cancellation fee
• 7 days or less prior to your scheduled check-in time: a 100% cancellation fee will apply
