St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

Located in a historic part of the city surrounded by colourful houses and huge trees of a similar vintage. Bannerman Park (complete with ice-skating loop and Beaver Tails stand) is a stone's throw away and Downtown is on our doorstep.

We are right on the North-East edge of the commercial/culinary centre. The famous (although, perhaps “infamous” is more accurate) George Street is found more toward the South-West region, and is reachable in ~20 minutes on foot; by way of either some of the more captivating streets of “jelly-bean” row houses, or following along Duckworth/Water Street where most-all the main shops and restaurants can be found.

Historical Quidi Vidi Village - traditionally a fishing port village affectionately called “the Gut” by locals - is accessible by trail (~30 minutes) along the lake which shares its name. Although mostly loved for the undeniable charm of its traditional, stilted fishing shacks built along the sheer, rocky cliffs that border the small waterway; the village now also boasts one of our city’s favourite brewers (again, of the same name), a world-class restaurant (Mallard Cottage), and many other fun surprises laying in wait for the adventurous to discover.

Also within walking range:
- The old Harbour Battery - Trail/Road
- Signal Hill - Geo Centre, Cabot Tower, Interpretation Centre - Trail/Road
- Rennie's River Trail - Road
- The Basilica of St. John the Baptist - Road
- The Rooms - Art Gallery, Archive, Interpretation Center - Road
- And, too many fantastic restaurants, shops, and other fun things to list

Hi, I’m Declan! I am a full-time French student, and future teacher, with a fierce love for my city. I am an experienced traveller, an avid sailor and skier, a lover of the arts, and an enjoyer of a nice, cold beer. As a proud, born-and-bred Newfoundlander, I take great pleasure in making new friends from all over and acquainting them with all that this one-of-a-kind island has to offer. I am in my second year of operating a hospitality- and tourism-oriented Airbnb out of my family home, where I live with my parents, as one of my summertime endeavours. I also coach sailing full-time and attend Memorial University part-time during these months. My dad is a lawyer here in St. John’s who grew up in this house with his six siblings; and is, thus, most at home in a house with a bit of hustle and bustle to it. My mom is a retired physiotherapist who, in the summer months, will most often be found tending to the garden with a smile on her face. Although it has been entirely my project and vision to provide an enjoyable guest experience by managing and making use of the extra space in our home, my parents are equally as responsible for maintaining the warm atmosphere that so many guests have already come to appreciate. We are all easy going and always good for a conversation. Come stay with us! Let’s be friends!

My family consists of inherently sociable folks (I think they say something of the sort about all us Newfoundlanders up on the mainland), and the house is known to friends and family as a place where they are always welcome for a chat and a laugh. You should feel the same way! Moreover, it brings me great joy to show people my favourite haunts around town and share a bit of our history along the way. My services as amateur tour guide are readily available at no extra cost! That being said, there's more than enough room in this place to give you all the privacy and breathing room you may need.
