We offer a newly renovated Villa with ocean and sunset views from the home and pool with its own trail to the fastest growing brewery on the Nicoya Peninsula and a 1000 sq. foot teak yoga platform. The home has a workspace and its own beer taps in case you get the urge to order your own kegs. The brewery and restaurant will reopen November 2021, but in the meantime, you can find our beers on the Nicoya Peninsula in restaurants, bars, and supermarkets.

Chỗ ở
Villa Cocobolo at Que Mae Brewing Company is located between Playa Hermosa and Playa Manzanillo on the Nicoya Peninsula, 50 meters above sea level and just 150 meters from the ocean. You can enjoy sunsets from the home and the pool while listening to the sounds of waves crashing onto Punta Pochote below. The beautiful beach of Playa Manzanillo is 350 meters away by public road and the breathtaking beach of Playa Hermosa is a short drive or a nice leisurely walk along the beach road with a waterfall flowing over the road and its numerous tide pools.

I purchased the land in 2001 and began gardening, planting and reforesting. The property has transformed from vines and brush for cows into walking trails and gardens with over 30 different type of native trees within half an acre (2000 meters) around the villas.

I built my home, Villa Pochote, in 2007 and shortly added Villa Cocobolo in 2008 for guest and friends. Since that time we have added a pool for the Villas which is private to Villa Cocobolo. Also we have a 1000 sq. foot Teak yoga platform with ocean and sunset views, as well as our very own brewery and restaurant which will reopen to the public in November 2021.

At Villa Cocobolo you will find the peace and tranquility that you are looking for in your trip to Costa Rica. It is surrounded by the rare Costa Rican Cocobolo hardwood tree as well as the renowned Pochote. The house is built in the loft style with second floor windows offering ocean, sunset, and mountain views. The bathroom and the bedroom are both located upstairs, and the bedroom’s sliding glass doors open to a private balcony allowing ocean views, and monkey and bird watching from the comfort of your bed.

The kitchen and entertaining areas are downstairs and have three patios, two of which are accessed by sliding glass doors for more ocean viewing and garden access.

Villa Cocobolo can accommodate 2 adults with children or possibly 3 adults.

Built and designed by the owner in August of 2008 the home has vaulted ceilings of Pochote beams with laurel wood paneling and the verandas, patios, stairs, door and window frames are all accented in teak.

Villa Cocobolo has a fully equipped kitchen, comes completely furnished, and is surrounded by lush gardens, white gravel walkways, wrought iron gates for added privacy and private parking, pressurized hot/cold water, Smart TV, 100 MGPS Fiberoptic Wifi, cleaning service, gardener and laundry facilities and/or service if needed.

Take time to walk along the trails of our property which lead to our ocean
view yoga platform, brewery and many other quiet and secret spaces...look for coatis, anteaters, jaguarundis, white face and howler monkeys, various bird species, and iguanas...or find one of our sitting areas and just watch and listen to the ocean.

Our staff can help with any questions or needs, so sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay with us...

THE BEACHES....

Because of rock reefs surrounding the entrance to Playa Manzanillo, this beach has it all. Here you can surf, snorkel, swim, kayak, fish, beach comb, and at the end of the day enjoy one of the most spectacular sunsets the Nicoya Peninsula has to offer. The best part about Manzanillo beach is many days the only footprints you will find will be your own.

A few years ago Playa Hermosa was basically unknown, but recently discovered by surfers tired of the crowds and congestion of Santa Teresa, this beach is becoming increasingly more popular for tourists and surfers. Playa Hermosa lives up to its name and is truly beautiful offering great waves for surfers, swimming and beachcombing.

To truly capitalize on all the peninsula has to offer, a car or 4 wheeler is a must, but still many of our guests prefer to walk the old beach road to Playa Hermosa enjoying the quiet and slow pace - stopping at the tide pools, private beaches, the waterfall, and always returning with stories of seeing more monkeys and iguanas than people.

THE SURF....

Yes, there is surf. A short drive south are the more popular surf spots of Playa Carmen (Mal Pais) and Santa Teresa, but just a few minutes away in Manzanillo and Playa Hermosa you can find waves for all levels of surfing (reef, point breaks, beach breaks, river mouths) – beginner to advanced – with crowd and attitude free, consistent surf.

For any surf questions feel free to contact the owner who has over 40 years surfing experience.

We can also set-up surf lessons with qualified instructors.

THE FISHING....

Manzanillo and north to the Bongo River is an area famous for fishing. You can go local and try your hand at hand-line fishing or bring your own gear and head out to the reefs at low tide. You may get lucky and hook sea bass, snook, red snapper, or a rooster. A quick run north will get you to The Bongo which is legendary for its fishing due to its river mouth - a great place to catch snook, just ask a local family who bought a car they call “robalo” meaning “snook” in Spanish. All the money they earned to buy the car came from selling their snook/robalo catches from the Bongo.

We can also book fishing tours for you – just ask.

Playa Hermosa - Manzanillo Beach Rd, Costa Rica, Puntarenas, Costa Rica

The neighborhood is very peaceful with private homes and rental homes spread out in what really is the countryside. It is a stark contrast to the high level of activity just south in Santa Teresa. Some neighbors still pass by on horseback, and it is common to see cows beings herded down the main road to a hand dug well on the beach for water and grazing. The property is located up over the ocean - 55 meters - so you can hear the waves crashing on the reef below. There are no buildings between the ocean and the property. There is a road in front of the property that takes you down to Manzanillo Beach (250 meters) which you can walk or drive. You can go south for less than 5 minutes and arrive at Hermosa Beach.

One of the great things about the beaches here are you can head down Manzanillo Beach all the way to the Bongo River (about 7 km) and somedays rarely see a footprint on the beach.

Below the property on the old road, there is a small, picturesque waterfall that is fed by our springs in the rainy season that flows under the beach road and onto the beach. Along the same road, there are a series of beautiful tide pools where you can find plenty of privacy almost any day of the year.

I love to fish and surf, and there is plenty of that here...just ask!

I'm a surfer/traveler who stumbled upon Mal Pais and Santa Teresa in 1993 and never could quite let go. I made the Manzanillo/Playa Hermosa area my home in 2001 and have never looked back - great waves, incredible natural setting, and interesting people - I've found my paradise. I've been fortunate to have lived all over the US, travel the roads with rock bands, drive through Central America by Jeep, live in Europe and Japan - all the while surfing - but I have been more fortunate to have had total strangers open their homes, hearts, family and cultures to me and show me things I could have never learned on my own. I'll never be able to thank them for their kindness and teachings, but I can repay them by passing what I can on to others. There's nothing I enjoy more thansharing what I've found here in this small, but unique corner of the world.
